duncs 0 Posted March 12, 2006 hi, folks i have a quick question for you all, i have a 205 fitted with the alloy block mi-16 engine running the 405 loom, iv had the car for around a year now and its been fantastic too me but of late its started idling very high around 1500 rpm and no matter how i adjust the air flow metre it wont go where it should iv swapped afm's and still no change iv changed plugs leads cap rotor arm oil etc and it still idles high im now thinking it could be drawing air from a burst gasket somewhere is this a possibility if anyone can shed some light on what else it could be it would be appreciated as its starting to make the car run very hot and cant be doing it much good cheers guys
PsychoSimon 0 Posted March 12, 2006 check theidle control valve is closing properly mate. its on top of the inlet manifold in case you dont know. That causes nearly as many problems as a SAD does on the 8v's
duncs 0 Posted March 12, 2006 will try that in the daylight tomorrow and let you know cheers
duncs 0 Posted March 14, 2006 turns out the buterfly's on the throttle body werent shutting so i swapped the body for a spare and its sweet as a nut again
M@tt 77 Posted March 14, 2006 get some carb cleaner (2 quid from local motor factors) on the body/butterflies and give it a clean and it should be good once more then you've got another spare i'm assuming you've got crud build up around where the butterfly shuts thus preventing it form sealing properly
duncs 0 Posted March 14, 2006 not as much as i was expecting the actual mechanism that goes through the butterfly and on to the throttle sensor(where the acc cable sits)was loose so when you "blipped the throttle" it was sticking once the body was off and held up to the light you could see light all the way round the edge, its soaking in carb cleaner just now so that should resolve it the other thing is the body i took of was webber but the one i put on was amr or something along those lines does this make any difference
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted March 14, 2006 I'd make sure the valves aren't smaller.
