Cactus 1 Posted March 12, 2006 My 1.9 beam tube looks u/s the outer bearings transformed themselves into brown powder so I am faced with a rebuild Where is the best place to get a new tube? are these available only from peugeot or is anyone selling replacements? Anyone know how much i should expect to pay for a tube? Are the tubes all the same across the range? I wondered if I could get one from another model cheaper, cos when you say gti at the breakers the price seems to go up. This 205 is getting expensive so I am looking for the most cost effective option I am going to try gsf on monday for new trailing arm shafts. mbayley77 0 Posted March 12, 2006 I havnt used them but I paid 50 quid for a 309 beam complete from the scrappy. That was off a non gti late model. was in great condition with good trailing arms and even the bearings still worked. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Anthony 1,003 Posted March 13, 2006 205 GTi and 205 base model tubes are technically different, but you can use a base model tube on a GTi just fine - that's your best bet for a replacement, as new beamtubes from Peugeot are absurd money (£250 odd rings a bell) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Easier to fix the existing beamtube I'd have thought by milling out the damaged bearing seats and using some sort of insert and/or a larger bearing in it's place. Cactus 1 Posted March 16, 2006 The way that springs to mind is to grind out all the rot fill the area with weld then have it machined to size again. Whether this is cost effective is another matter though. I will check this out. Anyone know if the beams are case hardened where the bearings sit? I am sure it is the wrong size etc but I was looking at the suspension set up on the back of a Citroen xsara the other day and you could easily mistake it for one from a 205. The poor guy who had this was driving along when the whole thing fell off his car. I only had a quick look but it seems the system is only held on by rubber bushes, they failed and off it came.
