RHULPUG 0 Posted March 12, 2006 Went to change a blown brake light on my 205, while doing this I had the hazards and lights on to see which one it was. The car has now gone crazy! There's a wierd clicking noise coming from near the glove box, also, none of the rear lights are working, and the alarm immob has also gone wierd and started making a clicking sound near the ignition. None of the functions on the key fob work any more, and it will not even start! Please help, I'm now stranded at home in the snow and don't wanna call out the AA because I reckon they'll not know what to do and just offer a tow! I've disconnected the battery because the clicking sound just wouldn't stop!!!! Please please please, so desperate!
hengti 2 Posted March 12, 2006 had very similar sounding symptoms after I'd taken my dash apart - I was well worried I'd freaked the wiring and that it'd be a right can of worms to sort out turned out it was just a flat battery - very strange that it should seem to randomly trigger various electrical systems - but that's all it was I've got my fingers crossed for you! RHULPUG 0 Posted March 12, 2006 on phone to AA to see if they'll help...doesn't look promising:(
hengti 2 Posted March 12, 2006 ppfff have you got any jump leads? if not - just borrow some from a neighbour
RHULPUG 0 Posted March 12, 2006 Not got anything like that....student car park and all! Got AA coming out within the next hour so maybe they'll sort it if it's only a flat battery. Was only trying to fix a blown brake light and this is what happens..... AA woman was on about an immob reset button, but not sure what she means, and how this would be connected to a brake light problem. Do you reckon the weather could have had some effect on it.....it's covered in snow up here!
hengti 2 Posted March 12, 2006 If your battery is dodgey, cold weather certainly won't help with engine cranking ... what immobiliser have you got? there's usually a pin plug somewhere on the dash to over-ride it i wouldn't worry about the immob too much though - hopefully it'll just sort itself out once the AA juice you up
RHULPUG 0 Posted March 12, 2006 yeah fingers crossed, cheers mate! ...could be worse, could be stuck at a petrol station trying to change the bulb when it happened rather than uni halls!....still stuck here now though! oh and the immobilser is an avital maxx3 or something like that. hengti 2 Posted March 12, 2006 hope it works out - let us know how you get on oh, and buy yourself some jump leads! PS. only an afterthought - but there might have been some in the security/caretakers office - they probably get asked for them all the time
Guest CB-Dave Posted March 12, 2006 sounds like you've just knocked one of the indicator bulbs out to me like... would explain the ticking from the alarm and the glovebox area cos that's where the relay is and if a front or back bulb goes, the relay clicks twice as fast cos of the lowered resistance... as for the fail to start - maybe the battery has had it in the cold and has shown itself by draining flat... RHULPUG 0 Posted March 12, 2006 Sorted, you were right guys, cheers for the advice! Battery was drained by not having engine on while sorting out lights with them on. Need to buy my own jump leads! Just noticed now that my indicator buld isn't working....think I may be tempting fate by trying to fix that one:)
