Eryl1.9Gti 0 Posted March 12, 2006 Right im thinking of putting in a 2ltr turbo into the pug. Look at a few threads on here but still after some advice before i go and get a lump. Was thinking of getting a Citroen XM as a engine source. All i see are auto, does the pug G-box fit straight on??? Is it better to get a whole car or find a lump from Mike scrap?? Am i mad or does this sound like a plan?? Anyone know of ppl who have done this conversion before as id like to ask em some Q's Thanks Eryl (yes i've done a search)
sonofsam 5 Posted March 12, 2006 406 RGX engine would be better ...couple more GG's Yes get the whole car. 205 gearbox will fit,you just need to change the clutch and flywheel from the turbo lump to one from a MI16. Just completed my conversion
Eryl1.9Gti 0 Posted March 12, 2006 How much difference in power are we talking. Seen a few 406 for sale but their a few quid dearer than the XM's. Does the engine just fit right in with uprated mounts?
sonofsam 5 Posted March 12, 2006 406/605 RGX = 150bhp XM or Xantia RGY = 139bhp according to the books/sources on here. Yes engine fits straight, using either a 306 XSI / MI16 cam side mount, gearbox and lower mount are the same, you cant use xm/406 lower mount as it puts the driveshafts way out of line Lower engine mount may have to be lengthened to stop turbo hitting brake master cylinder Have not done this on mine yet,but will have do to make enough space for a decent exhaust downpipe, its tight against the bulkhead at the moment. Eryl1.9Gti 0 Posted March 12, 2006 Cheers for the info guys. All is usefull. How long did it take for you to do the conversion?
Ant 2 Posted March 13, 2006 I started mine about 3 weeks ago.. Cracking on well, but its just all the "little" things you need to raid a scrappy for . I fitted the lump last weekend on the saturday and sorted out the gear linkage and location etc. on the sunday i specked up what hoses etc i needed. This weekend i sorted all the water plumbing and what IC stuff i needed. Also fitted and alternator. Next weekend i plan to sort the exhaust / bottom mount and electrics. Hopefully fire it up in a couple of weeks Try and get the RGX lump. The code is just above the sump to the right of the oil filter on the block.. probably covered in crap.. I spent a whole morning finding mine, as i wasnt gonna use the lump if it was 139bhp. and better still.. Get the whole car if poss. Then some scrappy doesnt hack the loom to bits. You can use the 2.0 clutch / flywheel but apparently you need to hack off som of the Gbox. I fitted an mi one I had to make a custom alternator bracket You also need to extend the bottom engine mount and alter your downpipe.. So you need to be able to weld, or know someone who can.. I finished my water plumbing this weekend. I raided my mates scrappy and took a load of T piece hoses, as the 605 2.0 Turbo rad had an extra hole for another pipe off the oil filter. I used a T piece. Its all doable .. Just a case of getting bits and bobs.. I wouldnt say harder, but more time consuming than an Mi16 conv Do a search on the following usernames.. You see the questions and answers... sonofsam fuqa ant alexg jacobs53 hilgie A lot of stuff has been covered Oh and good luck LOL
