Intermittent Wiper Relay

One of the final bits of my 206/205 hyrbid interior wiring i have to get sorted is the intermittent wiper.

 

Basically the 206 stalks outputs a single wire with voltage when it is set to the intermittent position.

 

However the 205 stalks have some sort of looping going on with the intermittant relay neither of which i can find any more information about how either of them work as the haynes doesn't show the internal workings of them.

 

anyone have any info or suggestions for a possible fix ie a suitable relay from another car that will work from a single wire into it? (the 206 intermittant is controlled via the bsi rather than a relay) i've done a quick google but not come up with much

if no one knows about the relay then i've just found one of these on maplins website which might do the job by the looks of things

but ideally if i could work out how to use the existing realy that would be great

Wiper relay is only one pin different to the tachymetric relay so I guess the stalks must have two feed to the fusebox, one to the relay for intermittent & one for constant.

 

Got a wiper stalk here so I'll test the pins & let you know.

ah so i could split the one wire which i have coming from the stalk and split it to the 2 feeds into the fusebox?

The relay controls the intermittant. Feed a voltage to the right pin and it will run on intermittant. You can also get a relay from BOSCH that allows you to have variable intermittant by only changing the relay. How to vary it is a bit obscure but now I have it I wouldn't go back to normal fixed intermittant.

P.S. I can guess how it works inside the relay but haven't taken one apart to check...

Looking at the 205 wiring diagram has got me totally confused because the relay is actually listed twice on the same diagram!! diagram3 E8 & J5 it looks like one is the fuseboard wiring and one is the relay itself??!!??

 

The J5 one appears to have 4 pins 3 of which have multiple wires going to them and the second instance of the relay E8 on the fuseboad looks like it has 6 pins wired up!!??!!

 

i have 3 wires going from the relay to the old control stalk so i' cant just connect the wire the the right pin as i will still have 2 other wires spare which means it's not working (which ever that one is, any idea of the wire number you mean?)

 

i hope that makes sense

I was looking at the Haynes manual last night (confusing diagram) & I think looking at the column stalk the centre pin on it (with castle towers on each end upwards) is the 12v in, one to the right is intermittent feed to fusebox relay & second to right is slow constant to relay.

 

I couldn't be bothered to go find a relay to pinthat out though as its cold in my celler.

 

I'll have a try again later.

Hell that is confusing! However, check out the wire numbers and I think you will find that apparently unconnected wires have the same number so I would assume are atually the same wire!

 

Think the only way to get your head around that is to try and draw the connections out for the motor, relay and stalk on a seperate piece of paper. That is horrific but I if I had enough time I could certainly sort it out. Stunning how they can make something simple look so complex!
