Recommended Posts

Hey Chaps.

Wired in the last of my cables this morning, stuck a charged battery on and cranked it.

I can hear the fuel pump working and starter motor turns over but it wont fire up.

Any ideas on what's going on and what i can check

Cheers

Sam 95% happy man.

when i've read posts on here before, the advice seems to be that as long as there is spark, fuel and compression it should start.

i think i remember having a permanent live too!

can you hear the ECU when you switch the ignition on (Just put your ear on it)

then when you crank you may not be getting power to the ecu!

yeh i got those hooked up,two big brown wires attached to the slam panel fuse box via a 205 plastic

spade connector.

Unless i have mixed these up,cause there is 4 big brown wires.may of hooked up the wrong two

must admit i did'nt listen for the ecu hum.

as i recal, one of the main power lines that i ended attaching to the slam panel actually followed the rest of the harness into the car on the 406.

Just check the ecu is actually on when the ignition is on and when cranking, and then if it still wont start ou may have to feed another switched live to the ecu, where the keypad used to connect (However im not sure about that as i used the keypad)

pin 27 needs a 12 volt feed either from the keypad or a switched live

alwasy the one that catches people out. And by the way if you have a keypad car and you don't know the code.... just connect pin 27 to 12v live :) works every time

Unfortunately there's no such thing on the 2.0T engine as the wirenumbers are almost never there.

I always use a schematic (which is the same for all 2.0T enginelooms) and go from that. Then it's just measuring. In fact and that would be the easiest for you I guess is to leave the sensors for the dash and startermotor on their old 8V loom and wire in only the live, switched live, and fuelpump from the 2.0T loom.

http://www.student.kun.nl/p.oonincx/downloads/xu10j2te-1.gif

As you can see in the schematic item 1304 (the large brown multirelay) is the most important thing.

Constant live should be on pins: 15,14,11 and 8

Switched live should be on pin: 3 (which connects directly to wire 2 on the 205) and on pin 27 of the ECU

Fuelpump is fed from pin: 9 (which connects directly to wire 76 on the 205)

This way the engine should at least be running. Also note that above wires are all on the round (or square) multiplug on the engine loom. So just a case of measuring from the relaysconnector to the multiplug to see which wires are which.

Have fun!

Hilgert
