just a quickie,does anyone know if gti torsion bars have the same no of splines at either end??

No they don't. One side has finer splines than the other.

so adjusting one side at the trailing arm end and the otherside at the opposite end would give me different ride hieghts. that might explain my un-levelness?????

There's one torsion bar per side, so there's no unevenness involved. The end of the torsion bar that sits in the trailing arm has one pitch of splines, and the end that sits in the beamtube has another.

No, they'll differ.

 

If you want to lower in splines, leave the torsion bar connected to the trailing arm and just remove it from the beamtube end. Lower it on spline round, and refit. Do the same on the other side, again at the beamtube end, and both sides will be lowered equal amounts.

I realise that, but the previous owners messed with it, so one spline at the beam end lowers the car onto full travel of the shocks so theres no suspension travel at all. its possibbly got the wrong shocks on though. does anyone know the correct shock body length, mine measure 200mm from the centre of the shock body eye hole to the top of the body.
