Tachymetric Fuel Injection Pump Relay.

Recommended Posts

Guest jimmy9gti

Hi all,

Might sound like a silly question!,but bought a donor car a while ago now to use the engine box etc to run in the mint 1.6 Gti i have.

This 1.9 engine is running a twin weber 45 set up. The Tachy/fuel pump relay was still connected, all i would like to know is whether this needs to be left in or can i take it out???.

See told you it was a silly question, lol! :)

The main reason for me asking is that,i'd heard someone say on another site/forum say that this also controls the starting system as well????

I dont want to have trouble getting it going when i finally try and fire it up.

Will it still turn over and start ok?

Any help much appreciated.

p.s Brilliant forum/site! Glad to be a part of it :D

Well I'm no expert but I know that when I disconnect my relay the central locking ceases to work as well as the car refusing to start etc. So I think there might be a few circuits that run through, for some reason.

I'm probably talking crap!

If you're still running the standard fuel pump and haven't altered the wiring in any way, then you'll need to keep the tachometric relay as that's what controls power to the fuel pump.

Hi Anthony,

I'm not using the leccy pump in the tank. Will be running a Facet Red Top and fuel regulator/filter (glass bowl type),already in situ/fitted.

So anthony i take i wont need to use the relay, not even for the starting system??.

I did already know that the relay controlled the power to the pump,as have had probs in the past with one in a 1.9 miami blue 205 i had!!(relay/wiring at plug overheating!!). It was the starting bit i was a bit worried about???

Cheers for your prompt reply mate, any more infor help will obviously be much appreciated?.

Oh nearly forgot!,can i ditch the ECU now as well?,or will i need this for the ignition/distributor etc etc??

Many thanks.

Ignition is completely seperate from the ECU, so no requirements for it there. If your Facet pump is using it's own wiring, then you can also ditch the tachometric relay just fine - it has a feed from the starter solenoid wire, but that's just to switch the pump on during cranking (which I suspect is where the confusion is arising).
