Guest Quakes Posted March 9, 2006 Ok finished wiring everything up to do and tried to start it wouldnt start :/ so i changed the ht leads around as i cant remember what order they go in its sparking and the injectors are injecting and im guessing airs getting in. when i changed the ht leads and tried again it would try to start and once every few seconds would let out a sort of pop bang out the exhaust any idea if this is something obvious that ive done wrong or are my ht leads just totally wrong Cheers Jono
jack biscuit 0 Posted March 9, 2006 yeah lead wrong i think.. give me five and i'll check mine for you.. my head's dismantled at the moment..
Guest Quakes Posted March 9, 2006 brilliant cheers mate edit never works for me :/ also i noticed putting the car back together the bit with the butterfly on the inlet manifold that you connect the k&n adapter to has three little ports coming off the bottom 2 are connected 1 isnt any idea what its for / if its used? i think its the furthest left one
jack biscuit 0 Posted March 9, 2006 (edited) ok chief.. looking at the dizzy cap end on, with the three leads facing you. centre is coil (!) left is 4 right is 3 left below 2 and right below is 1 (!) (number one being flywheel end, apologies for any egg sucking) notice hayne's never tells you this.. the number of times i've ripped leads off without marking them..! Guest Quakes Posted March 9, 2006 hmm 3 leads facing you ? looking at the engine standing infront of the car dizzy cap has the 5 terminals pointing away if you were to cut away the cap and look at it dead straight on it would be like this? (X) 4 (X) 3 (X) Coil (X) 2 (X) 1 4 being cam end 1 being flywheel/gearbox end ?? sorry just want to be clear thanks for your post grr that looks wrong forum made it look differant should be (X) 4 (X) 3 .........(X) Coil (X) 2 (X) 1 ......'s are for allignment lol
jack biscuit 0 Posted March 9, 2006 (edited) (X) 2 (X) 4 .........(X) Coil (X) 1 (X) 3 i left the leads connected to the dizzy cap, four different lengths, shortest to one, nearest cylinder to dizzy should be right, after all the car did run! cam wheel end is 4 (i'm only pedantic about this because pug the first i've come accross to count em that way) Edited March 9, 2006 by jack biscuit

Guest Quakes Posted March 12, 2006 Just to update changed the order and it still wouldnt start guessed it was flooded and the battery was dead sp i got my mate to tow me around lol left it in 5th took about 10 seconds but it fierd and its working now 2 new problems now hehe it missfires after 3000 the manifold isnt fully connected to the downpipe could that cause it due to lack of backpressure or will it need to be tuned as well ? or more likely air flow sensor ill do a search now i forgot to put the rubber seal in the thermostat housing and it gushed a lot of water onto the gearbox where most the wires are, now the starter motor stays on constantly and i have to start my car by connecting the brown multiplug then disconnecting it when it fires. meaning i have no gauges while im driving :/ quite annoying but atleast im on the road
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 12, 2006 Nice one on getting it started, glad it was something simple like lead order! The blowing manifold to downpipe joint shouldn't cause a mis-fire at 3k, sounds more like a fuel or ignition issue. What kind of misfire is it? Will it rev past 3k and clear? Does it smoke out the exhaust on mis-fire at all? The other issue sounds like a fooked starter and what your doing sounds like a scary bodge!!
Guest Quakes Posted March 13, 2006 Cheers for your reply the misfire is actually differant i thought it missfired over 3000 as in general rev higher as i go up the rev range. the misfire happens when i put the accelerator past half way as soon as it goes past it just sounds like 100's of mini misfires a sort of Burrrrr ing sound. Manifold, Starter motor and Tuneing are being done tommorow so ill see where i stand after that. Also is the bottom oil pipe of the oil filler meant to look too big, the filler just sat in and with the jubilee clip on it looks like baggy trousers with a belt on only asking because that pipes leaking oil. Might just pick up a new one while im at pug. With the starter, it is a bodge i know :/ but i had the car off the road for 3 weeks and with most places being closed / me lying in on the weekend i decided to leave it all to monday :/ i was just so happy to hear it running then to hear the starter motor engaging then disengaging while it was idleing really frustrated. But it was only gonna be for 2 days Cheers Jono
gti_al 1 Posted March 13, 2006 Have you checked simple things like the plugs? I had the exact same problem, and a new set of plugs fixed it.
jack biscuit 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Had similar with an ignition module, is it me or are these engines a bugger for ignition problems? Maybe it's just the lemons that i drive!
Guest Quakes Posted March 13, 2006 its booked in wednesday for the tune and im gonna whip the inlet manifold off tommorow to find the starter fault and replace the oil pipes then booked in thursday to have the alarm fitted and the sensor wires replaced so if all goes well should all be sorted by thursday and sorry but gotta do this I CHANGED AN ENGINE ! Weeeeeeeee ! lol Cheers Jono
