Ht Leads

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there are a std set of leads to fit my spec of car, it has the following:-

Spark plug end is as a 205 XU9 8v.

Have gone distributorless and have a Peugeot / Citroen coil pack mounted on the end of the camshaft, the leads at this end require a 90 deg elbow. The diameter of the holes are 18mm and have a metal pin inside approx 3-4mm in diameter.

The overall length of leads need to be approx 7" shorter than a std 205 XU9 8v.

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

I assume you mean the wasted-spark coilpack that was found on most XU7 and XU10 8v models, yeah?

If so, I think a set of HT leads from a XU7 8v should suffice, as from memory they use a head similar to 205 GTi's with the recessed spark plug holes and have the coilpack on the end.

Could always order some from GSF, and take your old leads down there to compare against and confirm before you buy?

The ones from a late 205 1.6 Automatic shouldbe exactly what you need. Coilpack one end & same plug end as the 205 GTi.

I've got a set from a Citroen ZX which had the 1.6 XU engine fitted on mine.

Graham.

The coil pack came with my DTA kit, they say it is std Peugeot / Citroen, holes are 18mm dia, with a recessed pin in the middle about 3.5mm dia, the connecting plug is 4 pin rectangular in shape.

Is that from a XU7 8v (what engine is that?)

What I am trying to achieve is to be able to go to Magnecore and ask for a set of race leads (KV85) of the shelf as opposed to having a custom set made.

So exactly what model car should I state Graham, 1.6 Citroen ZX ??

XU7 8v engine is the 1.8 8v fitted to 405's, ZX's, 306's, and Xantia's.

As Graham says, some late 1993-on XU5 8v's (1.6 8v) should also be correct, but you need to be careful as most 1.6 leads will be for cars with a dizzy and hence the wrong connectors/length.

Citroen ZX Volcane 1.9 8v leads will also be correct.

(the above assumes your coilpack does have the same connections as a standard Peugeot/Citroen 8v coilpack - I've not got one to hand here to be able to check/measure)

Thats sounds to be a bit to big for a Pug or Citroen coilpack, my coilpack ends are 15.15mm wide on my verniers but otherwise it sounds OK & I'm sure teh rubber boots will stretch out.

I've attached a picture of the coilpack & lead end for comparison.

I think the ideal off the shelf set of leads for your car would be those for a 1994 205 1.6 Automatic. My mum has one & the leads are exactly the same as mine which I got from a ZX 1.6 in the scrapyard.

Magnecore should be able to find the exact length of these & make a set suitable, if not a trip to a scarpyard in Sheffield. I could measure a set I have if you want Chris.

Graham.
