Alastairh 47 Posted March 8, 2006 ok this is for my 106 xsi 1.4 Tu. last week was traveling at 80 mph (private road), missed 4th gear (s*ite gear linkages), and then it went all abit wrong Put it in 5th, and then the clutch pedal had sank about 15mm and went light. Then drving it made some funny metal noises, and vibrates when you pull off. i pulled over, the gear box is still attached to the block ok, can't see any clutch hanging around in the engine bay. I then drove off and felt ok bar the odd vibration and sunk clutch pedal. Then the next day it was really enoying me as i had my mother in the car, so got home and adjusted the clutch pedal so it sits up a further 15mm, and then it really didn't like that. And now makes metal noises in 1st and reverse gear. I haven't driven it since, but im needing thoughts as to whats up with it. I don't think the cable has stretched, as its random for them to in one go. I can still get all gears. So does anyone else agree with me that the thrust bearing/clutch has had a major failiure? i will be taking the box off tomorrow as its raining today, so will find out more. kate205gti 4 Posted March 8, 2006 from my limited experience i would guess at the clutch/clutch release bearing for the simple fact it still goes in gear and its the pedal thats affected not the stick
Alastairh 47 Posted March 8, 2006 Yes my thoughts exactly.
jonah 1 Posted March 8, 2006 Are you absolutely sure that the gearbox is attached to the block properly? Because the symptoms fit perfectly with what happens when the block to bellhousing bolts snap (a mate of mine had this happen last week on his 309). He also couldn't see anything wrong until getting underneath the car, there was no gap visible from the top - weight makes it sag in the middle so a gap opens up at the bottom - may only be visible when clutch pedal pressed. Alastairh 47 Posted March 8, 2006 Fairly sure its fine, but will double check. I've had that happen before. Alastair
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted March 8, 2006 Take the box off and find out, sounds like youve mullered your clutch to me, it was making real nasty noises!
jonD6B 0 Posted March 8, 2006 I would take a guess at the pressure plate.
