306 Mi16

YES, I KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS THIS IDIOT THINKING!!!!

Well here is the jist of it. There is a 306 Gti-6 for sale with a blown engine (cambelt broke at high speed) and i wanted buy and find a replacement engine to put back into the HOLE. However, there doesnt seem to be any for sale in New Zealand.

I do however have in my possesion a perfectly good 1.9 Mi16 engine (which i was going to sell, but am thinking about re-considering) and was thinking how hard would it be to plonk the Mi16 engine into the 306 Gti-6. Does anyone have any experience with the RFS engine? I have only had experience with the xu9's and havent worked on a RFS engine.

All help would be much appreciated.

should fit straight in

to be honest i prefer the alloy mi16 over gti-6 lumps...

problems associated with tensions and valves would be one reason...

s16 fits and thats just an iron block mi16 essentially :)

I was wondering what is the difference in the sump. I:E the mounting of the A/C pump, power steering etc. I havent really examined a Gti-6 engine closely.

I'd expect the bigger problems to be in the ECU/wiring rather than the physical fitting of the thing...

I've thought about something similar, like having Mi16 into a phase 1 306 Xsi. Hmm trouble is whatever I get next must have aircon, I can't live without it now.

Use the Gti-6 inlet manifold for a few extra horses :)

Not quite yet. I'd be mad to at the moment anyway because it'd been so reliable.

You mean you've been contemplating killing a 405 Mi16 to fit the engine into another car!! :D:) What a fine defense service that is, kill you own. Are you a Yank at heart Kris?

I thought those days had passed when you returned to the 405 after the 309 Mi you had.

Disgusting, I thought you'd rather see them all rot away in scrapyards than let the heart live on in a new body. :)

Graham.

:) It was just a thought but I'd never do it. I like the Mi16 engine but sometime I wish it was in a newer body.

Again you mean?.

I notice you've asked Cybernck to remove your dirty past of killing a 405 Mi16 for one of your previous cars.

Graham.
