Resetting Electronic Speedo Mileage

I was wondering if anyone knew how or whether it was possible to set the mileage back to zero on my electronic 206 speedo? I'm not being dodgy or owt its just the car is effectively brand spanking new having had a total rebuild/respray etc and so just wanted he clocks to reflect this.

There's usually half a dozen companies in the back of Autotrader and the like who claim to be able to do this

i dont fancy paying someone if i can help it as i assumed i might be some special button combonation rather than requiring any special equipment to do it

To reset instrument clusters is generally something which requires specialist software. And alot of manufacturers encode something which means you are only able to do it within the first 150 miles of driving.

 

This is to dissuade someone just re-setting the odo every 150 miles. Its actually impossible to reset the mileage on most manufacturers clusters. Annoyingly to reset the cluster you'll need the diagnostic port from the wiring harness hooked up. Its not really a job for an amateur i'm afraid.

along these lines though when the battery is disconnected how does the mileage stay recalled on the counter... there must be some sort of power supply surely actually in the cluster ......like a little battery ( like in a pc on the motherboard) always wondered this

It's almost certainly stored in some kind of non-volatile RAM, so no power supply needed.

Mmm didn't think of that.............shoot there goes my grat plan of just removing that!!! the ram is probably quite imbedded with in the cluster aswell

9/10 times it sits in an eprom, you can get these demounted, read off, decoded, altered, coded and reflashed but it's not an easy job and is more than your standard diagnostic port jockeys can do.

 

There are companies on the net who will do it, just google for mileage alteration or something similar.
