Pug_sport 0 Posted March 7, 2006 I have done a search of posts on the mi16 and on one of them it said that somebody was going to draw up a wiring diagram, has anybody done this or not? I have got the engine part of the loom and the ecu for the mi but i have been told that i need all of the loom and that the bit that i have is not enough, is this correct? Also i am a little unsure about where to get my exhaust manifold modified and how much it would cost, if anybody can help i would be really happy. Also do you have to change the dash clocks or not? Thanks
pacey205 2 Posted March 7, 2006 Engine loom depends on where youve got it from really, the BX loom is a self contained engine managment loom where as the 405 one icludes wiring for the sensors as well. Exhaust mods - QEP on here do a re-angling plate, HiFlowheads and others do a reangled manifold. QEP are just outside Brighton so probably closest to you Id have thought. Miles also does exhausts but a 4-2-1 aftermarket system rather than the reangling. No need to change the dash clocks unless you really want to. BX clocks are a straight swap I believe, not sure on 405 ones. HTH Michael
alternative 0 Posted March 7, 2006 Interested to see pacey205's reply. You don't emthuse at all about the 16 valve unit and I see from the pic you run an 8 valve. I've often wondered if the 8 valve is more suitable for the 205. Views please!
Pug_sport 0 Posted March 8, 2006 Got the loom from the 405!!!! Will i have problems?
dee205 3 Posted March 8, 2006 Here's a recipe: You'll need: 1x Mi16 engine 1x Mi16 Motronic ECU 1x Mi16 managment loom 2 sometimes 3 multi plugs from the 405 car loom, that connect to the 405 managment loom along with a meter or so of spare wire attached to them. These are for the sensors, guages, fuel pump starter and so on. 1x Mi16 top engine mount. GTi mount is different. Not necessary but a new or stiffer lower mount would be of benifit. Ant 2 Posted March 8, 2006 405 to 205 mating is pretty straight forward Email me j69ant@yahoo.co.uk and ill forward you a wiring diagram
EnglishRob 0 Posted March 8, 2006 It was my Mi16 that Pug_sport has now got. I was quoted £1200+ for insurance which is just a tad too expensive for me a the moment (so I'm sticking with the 1.6 a little longer). As far as I know, he has the part of the wiring loom from the engine bay. There are also 2 ECU's, one is a Bosch, the other a Motronic one I think. I get the feeling he'll rope me into helping with the loom bits. I was the poor mug who was asked to help change his dash from a Phase 1 to Phase 1.5 which didn't go at all well, but still, he is letting me have his old 1.9 engine and he is also fitting it for me Does it cost much to get the existing manifold re-angled? That picture in my avatar is of an Mi fitted as well, pictures in the link in my sig is the old engine (not updated the pictures yet). Exhaust manifold re-angling is ~£50/60 I think, not sure on how much the plate is from QEP best bet would be to conact them. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 9, 2006 It depends on how much of the engine loom you have but imo the 405 is a better choice due to the wire numbers being viasble & colours sometimes being the same as in the 205. If you have quite a lot of wiring with a brown & a black multi plug on teh ends youhave the complete engine bay wiring & everything should be there. There are only about six wires that need joining into the 205 loom, the sensor loom, starter solenoid & alternator field wires can be left as the current ones to simplfy things further imo. There is a guide for using the 405 loom into a 205 here using the link loom method taken from AndyR's website. If its being fitted into an early phase 1 car the the sensor loom possibly comes from the passenger side of the bulkhead & the ecu loom from the drivers side but I could be wrong about this never having seen one stripped.
