Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 I'm in the process of fitting gti-6 brakes to the 205 which has 309gti hubs. But the carrier doesn't seem to fit on the hub, does it need some 'dressing'? I can't align the 2 bolts that go through the carrier as the middle pivots a little on the hub, will it be ok to shave a little off the hub and carrier? DrSeuss 0 Posted March 5, 2006 No, they bolt straight up.
Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 (edited) Have you got any ideas why mine don't? Getting really confused here! Edited March 5, 2006 by Dixon
DrSeuss 0 Posted March 5, 2006 How much are we talking here? A good wire brushing of the surfaces might help clean them up. But they bolt up just like 1.9 callipers.
Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 On closer inspection, i'm not convinced that they are even gti-6 brakes as when the 283mm disc is on the hub and I try to put the carrier on its not deep enough to accomodate the disc. Does anyone know any dimensions of the parts so I can check?
DrSeuss 0 Posted March 5, 2006 measure the calliper piston or look for a mark on the calliper body, it should say 57 somewhere (gti6 are 57.1 everything else 54 bar 406). They should be bendix iirc. Sorry, can't remember any more specific.
Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 I've got Lucas written on mine but it does say 57 on the calliper body and the pot is 57mm across. Is it possible to have the right calliper body but wrong carrier do you think?
Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 Quick pic for reference... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7730.jpg In that pic the bolt is through the bottom hole and the top is pushed as far in as poss and as you can see the hole isn't even close! Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 Couple of pics of the parts... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7738.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7739.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7744.jpg Anybody recognise them? Daz_C 8 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2006 My Gti 6 Calipers are Lucas and they fit on my 1.9 hubs without any probs.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 5, 2006 The calipers look like 266 items because they lack the cooling ribs on the rear of the caliper that the 57mm GTi6 ones do have. Can you see if there's anything written on the caliper? They should have 57 on them somewhere. If not it will be 54 items.
16v205 9 Posted March 5, 2006 Dont suppose you could take a pic of the carrier on the hub with the wheel turned so we can see what its hitting up against? Im sure the part of the carrier between the main bolts that attach to the hub is also curved on both sides gti-6 carriers to accomadate the hub. Yours appears to be curved one side and flat on the side that needs to be shaped. Suppose it doesnt help by saying I've also had no problem bolting the carriers onto a 1.9 hub and also a 1.6 hub . Only issue with the 1.6 hub was the disk offset, couldnt find one to fit. My caliper's were also Lucas with 4 odd cooling fins running down the body opposite side to the piston. If I can get a camera behind the wheel arch ill take a pic of my carriers if you like? Rich
Dixon 1 Posted March 5, 2006 Its definatly got the number 57 cast into the main calliper part as you can just about see is these 2 pics... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7748.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7764.jpg To get it to fit on the hub it would require shaving here... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...5/DSCN7771a.jpg But even if I could get it on the hub i'm not sure if the disc will fit beneth it, i'll have another look after work tomorrow and hold it all in place and take some pics. Can other carriers fit with the '6 callipers?
16v205 9 Posted March 6, 2006 Ound a old post that has some pics of a gti-6 caliper, not great but enough to see what they look like. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...=gti-6+calipers The '6 caliper is the top left in the first pic and the bottom right in the second. Anthony 1,003 Posted March 6, 2006 Those look like 406 283mm brakes to me, which don't fit 205 hubs as you've discovered...
Dixon 1 Posted March 6, 2006 Took some pics of it held to the car with the disc on... Its not deep enough to accomodate the disc as it doesn't even reach the hub when the disc is on, bit hard to see with my poor photography though! http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7777.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7781.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c67/alan...05/DSCN7779.jpg Are there any ways of telling if they are 406 brakes? What cars are they likely to fit, am I likely to be able to sell them to anyone? Or am I going to have to pay the guy I bought them from a visit to get my money back?! Phil 0 Posted March 9, 2006 My old post is linked above where I had one incorrect caliper. Unfortunately it looks like your calipers have 57mm pistons but are not from a GTi-6. The most important part of the GTi-6 brake conversion is getting the carriers as they are mega money from Peugeot. If you get incorrect calipers as I did then you can just exchange them for new GTi-6 ones at your local motor factors for about £50 Personally I would get your money back! Guest Joakim Enoksson Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) Those are 406 brake.....I have the same problem at home... If you want to get the calipers on, you need to take some material off the "yoke?" some mm....then it would fit. But, you will need a disc that will fit...I´m not sure witch... I+m on the same game. still dosent got it right... Edited March 15, 2006 by Joakim Enoksson
Dixon 1 Posted March 15, 2006 Well i've managed to source a new set of brakes. Will compare them when delivered next week, then will be going to get my money back!
