How To Remove Clutch Arm?

im trying to get my car working this weekend and not having much luck :(

 

got the engine running, took it up the road and the clutch release bearing is fooked :( so out came the gearbox again - got a new release bearing for it but the shaft it sits on is mullered (great chunks out of it! :)) so trying to replace it with a good one but cant get it out :(

 

the bit i need to replace is this:

and i need to remove this arm to get to it:

but been trying all evening and no luck getting the clutch arm off! :):( how do you remove it please? or can i drill out the stud that holds the clutch arm on and replace it with a nut and bolt??

 

any help much appreciated!!

best buy a arm from peugeot (or Miles) and just cut the old one out, there about £30 ish and come with the nylon bushes,

Kate, the pins through the top will just come out if you clout it hard enough with a screwdriver and hammer. (you might have two - knock out the smaller, inner one first) Drilling is an option of course, but you'll need it to be pretty strong after you've finished.

You can then prise the plastic holder up out of the top of the box and the arm will become loose. Make sure you replace with the right one as Mi and 8v have different sized arms...

Worth greasing the plastic bits when they go back in.

if i got a BE3 clutch arm off a 1.6 or 1.9 box would that fit in my mi box? or are they different??

 

getting desperate now :)

 

cheers adam im guessing that answers my using a 8v clutch arm question! :)

 

i can clout the stud but its a threaded stud?? does it matter if i clout it out and wreck the thread? (cant see what the thread is for) and then replace it with a nut and bolt??

 

do you mean the plastic bits inside the cell housing bit?

When i done the bushes on mine i had to drill out the stud and replace it with a nut and bolt

These can be a right sod to get off, a 11mm headed nut does the trick with some spacers to use as a puller, The thread is only external.

But sometimes they will not move and as Paul has said cutting is the only option.

The Mi16's, 1.6 and 1.9's all use the same cross shaft (arm) and the input shaft housing so no worries there, Only the 306's with a pull type clutch use a different cross shaft,

If you do take the housing off, Make sure you don;t bugger the gasket up as this is needed due to the correct end float on the input shaft unless it's worn out is the only time you would get away without replacing it, But use some sealent no matter what

Yep the thread is there to act as a puller with a nut and spacer as Miles said, but it hardly ever works.

It either chews the thread up or snaps in half.

Drill it out, it's a soft metal so is quite easy, and replace it with a M6 screw. (that's a 10mm hex head).

We cheated and picked up another gearbox and fitted that in the end (cheers Edd-XS and Mattsav <_<)

thanks miles :( (and alex!) i tried banging it out again on sunday morning but the biggest lump hammer i could find wouldnt even shift it!! <_< i did buy some metal drill bits to try drilling it out was a bit over enthusiastic with that lump hammer before i got that far and broke the plastic bushes!! -_-

 

worth knowing for future though! :D
