What Sould The Top Rev Of A 205 Td Be?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I've been far too busy to hang around but now that I've got everything ready for the veg oil conversion I'm wondering what the top rev of a 205Td is, not while its going just when its out of gear.

Haynes tells you what the top rev of the petrols are but the diesel book dont so...Any experience?

Thankyoooo.

Unloaded it's going to be high 4000's I'd imagine (4900rpm rings a bell from one of the Haynes manuals). When the engine is loaded, it's more like 4500rpm - you can of course adjust this on the injection pump.

Phew!

Must be after diving the ole petrol for a while that got me to thinking that the high 4's seemed a little low.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest :D

Haynes diesel engine manual says that max revs unloaded for the XUD7T should be 4900rpm, full load 4300rpm.

Mine struggles to pull much past 4k in fifth on the road. ;)

My old STDT used to pull to the limiter in 5th and stay there for 10-20 miles when I used to regularly go up and down the M40, sitting in the outside lane with all the reps and execs wafting along whilst I listened to the protests from the car. I was glad of the lack of oil temperature gauge allowing me to live in denial, as I dread to think how high the oil temperatures were getting with prolonged full boost and revs (it was dragging the coolant temperature up 15-20 degrees odd!) :(

Come to think of it, maybe that abuse was why the engine grenaded a few months later <_<-_-

My 306 DTurbo never felt have as revvy (in diesel terms) or abuseable as that old 205 STDT did, and would pretty much throw in the towel if you asked it to pull over 4000 in any gear.

Where does it say that in the diesel manual? I was looking for that for ages!

You know, on another note I happened across a site offering propane kits for diesel turbos...sounded pretty exciting! If its working on the princable that the propane helps burn all your fuel instead of 75% of it do you think that there wont be any lean issues?

Not that i can afford the kit of course! but for 1000 dollars with tank it sounded like pretty good value...

Section 2.2 Specifiacations, page 2*2.

If the site with the Propane kits was the one posted by Steve.c then I read it & didn't think that much of it. It involved a lot more work than just buying the kit & didn't sound all that worth while for the performance increase it gave.
