pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted March 4, 2006 Can i take a feed from cigarette lighter for one and starter motor(wire 46) for the otherCig lighter should be fine imo but the starter wire is a switched feed via the ignition barrel afaik. It only goes to the solenoid. Graham.
sonofsam 5 Posted March 6, 2006 Ok cheers Graham,i shall disregard the starter wire. Is there a constant live to ignition barrel, would this be better to use?
M@tt 77 Posted March 6, 2006 i'm sure there are 2 permanent lives going to the barrel, a red one and a whitish one as well both fairly thick, numbers escape me for the moment (wiring diagram doesn't give numbers unfortunately). i believe one is the power for when the key is at A & M and the other is when it is cranking HTH
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted March 7, 2006 There is another permanent live going to the back of the stereo to keep the memory stored. Would that be of any use? Graham.
stevec205gti 0 Posted March 7, 2006 Why do you need to take them from two points? If they both require a permanent feed then you can just connect them to one point
sonofsam 5 Posted March 7, 2006 Why do you need to take them from two points? If they both require a permanent feed then you can just connect them to one point Well i have two wires that need constant live and was unsure if it was ok to connect 2 into 1 ,guess it must be The two wires in question are atleast 50amp and 5-6mm thick and i think supply loom and ECU with power. So the ignition live input should be upto the job. Thanks people.
stevec205gti 0 Posted March 7, 2006 Well - if they're that big I wouldn't connect them to one source If these are seriously beefy cables you might be better off running your own permanent fused feed from the battery - that way you can make sure you don't over cook anything
les3002 0 Posted March 7, 2006 connect them to the old ecus live feed.
M@tt 77 Posted March 7, 2006 i would have thought any of the feeds inside the car should be ok, can't see why the ecu would need such heavy duty wiring
sonofsam 5 Posted March 7, 2006 not even sure if it is for ecu TBH I'll get to the bottom of this, dont worry Gents
