Strange Noise Coming From Near Brake Pedal

Recommended Posts

Guest yaztromo

This started happening on my 205 GTI a few days ago, the cars braking power hasn't been affected but the pedal is now much easier to depress, causing me too involuntarily brake too hard.

Basically when I push on the brake pedal I can hear a hissing sound like escaping air coming from somewhere near or behind the pedal. If I brake for long enough the escaping air sound stops, but if I release the pedal and brake again it will make the noise again.

What could this be? I must confess to being clueless when it comes to brakes.

I have this also. I assume that it a vacuum leak from the servo. But I've tested the servo and that all seems fine. Brakes aren't wonderful though.

Hmmm... in the first instance I woudl check all vacuum the pipework around the brake servo, there's one pipe coming off the top of the servo and then a T piece leading to a couple of places (depending on whether you have the factory sunroof or not).

Not sure what to suggest after that though!!
