Pas Conversion, Have I Got Everything?

Recommended Posts

I have just been to collect the parts needed to convert a 205 Mi16 to PAS. Can somebody please check that I have got the lower steering joint as I understand it is longer on a PAS rack compared to the non-PAS rack.

As far as I can tell the objects in the photo are:

Mi16 PAS pump c/w bracket

Cam pulley and cover

PAS belt

Power rack c/w lower steering joint, pipework and header bottle.

This photo I think shows the lower steering column joint:

Am I correct?

I just want to make sure this is the lower steering joint and I have everything I need for the conversion before starting.

yep you got everything there as far as i can tell same as what i've got.

you'll probably find the new lower joint is slightly shorter than the old one (PAS one bottom) and doesn't sit as far in the steering column joint as you'd imagine

but it does sit in far enough just make sure you tighten it up nice and good :)

I really wouldnt bother with this, having done this myself its a right pain in the arse, subframe has to be dropped etc, and another thing to go wrong. The only benefit is with parking and tbh your not going to be using an mi for that very often. I had one of my hoses birst and the fluid caught fire on the exhaust!

I ditched it but retained the PAS rack non assisted and used it as a quick rack, get much better feel through the wheel and generally feedback is much better than most the gti's i drive.

Just my opinion of course.
