Exhaust Information And Where To Get From

Recommended Posts

kenan

I'v got a 4-2-1 MI16 manifold system and have been advised that the standard phase 2 2 part 2inch system fits straight onto it (with minor work). I can get the back box sorted but having trouble with sourcing a centre section.

Just talked to the pug garage and they said the centre section is for a XU9J1 part no 177872 costing £80 :)

anyone tell me wher I can get a genuine part cheaper as I'm told these last longer? Also do you know if this is teh correct part for the phase 2 1.9 as needs to have the 2 inch diameter

Heres a link to show the different exhausts

Bosal Exhausts

Cat is XU9JAZ, but it seems XU9J1 is the same

Middle box seems to be a resonator only, so get the cheapest.

A phase 1, slide joint exhaust would be the easiest to use, no need to get an olive welded on, just clamp a 2 1/4" to 2" restrictor

thanks for the link, thats made thinds a fair bit eaiser :)

I'v been quoted £32.50+vat for the centre section part no 177872 for the later systems :) much better than the pug quote of £80+vat. Can then sell my Magnex for what it costs me to get the standard one fitted :D

Talking of fotting, I can jack my car up on my drive at home but have never touched an exhaust before. How eas are they to do ???? guess I just unclip/hock the old one and check the replacement on and tighten any clamps ???

Take it to an exhaust place, so much easier 7 foot up in the air.

You need to get a pipe made up from manifold to middle section, which is a reducer + an olive fitting. My olive fitting came off an old exhaust and was welded on to a reducer.

Miles

The 3 piece Phase 1 system is the same bore (1 1/2") as the Group 'N' system which is when it was designed (So power decrease), At least the Phase two bolts on with only have to cut & slit the pipe so that a clamp goes over it and your off, Easy as that

Oh yes, Pet hate of mine is Exhausts!!

I found, that the Bosal middlesection with silencer is built as reflection-silencer, other than the OE Pug stuff, which I thought has an absorber-silencer.

For sure is, that the Bosal system for the GTI was very restrictive, compared to my straightthrough middlesection, with absorber Backbox.

I think, you might be better off with an OE Pug item.

just my 2 cents
