Measuring A Camshaft Specification

Recommended Posts

christopher

I have a bunch of cams that I want to check the specification of. E.g duration, overlap, valve lift, cam lift etc.

Equipment I have is:

Head with a cam in...

Rockers if needed (but prefer not to use this)

Dial gauge and magnetic base.

Now I want to measure the duration first but an not sure how to set it up. Does anyone know of a good guide I can use?

I have read afew guides on teh net but am unsure..

Should I use 0.1mm clearance and measure duration from 0.1mm lift to start duration calculation?

Or should I use 0.1mm clearance and 1mm lift to start duration calculation ?

Is the calculation the time the valve is off the seat on a full cam rotation X 2?

I would like to get sime useful figures that I can compare to something..

I should not that this is a TU engine I am talking about but the principles should be similar.
