DaveK 0 Posted March 1, 2006 once i get a gti6 engine i was going to fit a 1.6 box to it as i dont really see any need for me going above 120mph and would rather the acceleration on tap (i would probably use my current 1.9 box and see what its like although a 1.6 is really tempting) are there any difficulties in fitting the 205 gearboxes to the gti6's?? slap me if its a stupid question, i have no clue about fitting gearboxes atm cheers dave
Butler 0 Posted March 1, 2006 I'd fit the 1.9 box. If its too tall fit a 1.6 final drive later on.
jackherer 543 Posted March 2, 2006 For an Mi16 I'd say 1.6 box everytime, they are ruined with 1.9 boxes IMO, but I've driven a 205 with a GTI6 engine on a 1.9 box and it felt fine so I'd stick with the box you have.
petert 588 Posted March 2, 2006 I agree. The 16V engines have totally different torque curve and are disappointing with tall gearing. Don't fit a total 5th combination less than a 5th gear Mi16. ie 0.76 x 4.43 = 3.67:
maxi 36 1 Cars Posted March 2, 2006 I found the mi16 gearbox is the best option for the XU10J4RS (GTi6). It ha the torque to pull 4th and 5th yet it also keeps it well on its toes..... Maxi
