Car Still Misfiring

Recommended Posts

Moys1.9

Got my car back from havin head gasket done and had a lot of probs since. Car is misfiring and i've done all the following.

checked firing order

replaced dizzy cap, plugs and HT leads

Replaced ignition coil

The cars also struggling to start. everytime its going its from a bump start.

Does this sound like bad news? My mates gonna do a compression test this week at some point cause he's suggested that maybe there's a crack in the cylinder head  , Does this sound right? Is there anything else I could try? Running out of ideas and money.

Without sounding thick what does the ignition amp actually do? Is there any thing I can do to check it?

I would imagine it amplifies the ignition signal (guess work) ..dont know about checking it.

but i have heard a dodgy one can cause misfire's .

Maybe get one from the scrappy to check ,before buying a new one

Think i'll give that a try. Does it have to be off a GTI or is it a common part to all 205's?

Got local mech I know to take a look at my car and he took the plugs out and they all stunk of fuel. Also 2 where black and they're all new. He reckons the timing belt isn't set correctly. Its gonna be next friday before I can look at that  . Another week of using my bike and gettin lifts. Would the state of the plugs suggest a bad timing problem?
