mbayley77 0 Posted March 1, 2006 I seem to remember there being discussions on here about needing bump stops etc for the MOT. So whilst I was getting my MOT this afternoon I asked if they are needed. They are NOT. Doesnt come into the MOT so if you dont want them on your car or want to cut em down go right ahead without fear from the MOT gremlins Hope it clears things for someone. jackherer 543 Posted March 1, 2006 my 205 failed the mot on a missing bumpstop once, I just glued one on and it passed
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 2, 2006 MOT point or not, (I also know of people that have failed because one was missing) I'd rather have something there instead of trailing arm & body contact. Graham.
jonah 1 Posted March 2, 2006 I wouldn't run without them either, who knows what could happen over a big bump... trailing arm meets body, tyre meets wheelarch, or damper bottoms out (with potential damage). That's if the torsion bar doesn't snap first. Peugeot are now selling them again btw.
Anthony 1,003 Posted March 2, 2006 Tyre hits the fuel filler pipe first (on a 205 beam) or the wheelarch takes a hit (on a 309 beam) if you're running without bumpstops. That said, on a car with standardish ride height on the road it's not really too much of an issue - it's lowered cars that really need the bumpstops.
mbayley77 0 Posted March 2, 2006 My point for this was that it seems as has been said that people are getting a fail because their bumpstops have corroded or are missing. if this happens then i suggest you ask them to show you in the hand book exactly where it states that these have to be in place and in what condition. Should keep him nice and busy trying to prove your cars failure! It is your right at the end of the day to have a fair test.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 2, 2006 I think it might only cause a fail if one is there & one missing & he notice's it. But like you say, ask him to show you where it states they have to be there in the MOT handbook & take it from there. Graham.
