309 Won't Run After Engine Change

Recommended Posts

batoutofhell

hi guys,

Basically we have a problem with an engine that we have just rebuilt for a 309 bought off ebay with bottom end failure. It's a 1.4 - and was an iron block one but we have put a carb version from a 205 in which is alloy, and we are trying to run the injection.

The engine is in and it's getting fuel. The problem is we cannot get it to spark consistently through the dizzy. It sparks every time direct from the coil, but when we come to use the ht curcuit of the distributor it won't run.

Also does anyone know for definate which is number one connection on the dizzy cap? its the black one if that helps.

Cheers,

John

Have you checked the dizzy cap itself, and the rotor arm and contacts? Not very expensive parts, and when they've had it new ones make the world of difference.

Its all up and running now. It appeared to be the revcounter that was draining all te power when we attempted to fire it up. Snipped the wire that comes of the coil to the rev-counter and fired up straight away. Thanks for the advice anyway Smokinslim.

I would just like to add as well that it was only lack of testing equipment that stopped me diagnosing it lol.

Sorry john had to put that in

basicaly the rev counter was earthing out the coil so the spark wasnt strong enough to get down the leads properly. Its always bl*ody tedious little things :s

Nothing to be sorry bout Si, credit to those who deserve it. Even tho you didn't have the equipment first thing you thought what could have caused it was the rev-counter, so fair play to ya
