1.9 205 Engine Into A Pug Van?

Recommended Posts

jonD6B

I've got a Pug Partner van that doesn't do much and it's got a 1.9 (none turbo) diesel engine in it. It basically carries tools and doesn't do many miles. I had a mad thought this afternoon after getting frustrated with trying to get it above 70 MPH on the motor way. As far as I know it is a 306 car derived van, so would it be possible to fit a 1.9 8V engine to it relatively simply? It's a tongue in cheek thought but could be good for a crack if it wasn't going to cost too much and after watching Top Gear when a Transit did the Nurbergring in (around 10 mins?) I thought it could be a laugh anyway. Any thoughts?

Iv got a new 55plate partner hdi its bloody quick! Had it on the bumpstops loaded up today still trucked on no prob. The old non hdi vans are so slow i timed my old one it did 0-60 in 35secs! id say it would be a dam good laugh to put a different engine in one.

Definately!!! at first thought u were gonna say 205 van but even better, stick it in the partner!

Jus reminded me of an old rusty escort piece of sh*t van i saw at Pod a few years back, had 'project s*itter' written down the side, pulled up to the strip opposite an Escort Cos! but had every one in awe when it shat on the Escy!! Checked it out later, had complete 4x4 cossy running gear!!

if its an xu engine on xu mounts, it shouldn't take too much work to fit another xu, what gearbox does it use? the 1900 might not enjoy a diesel box!

Fit an hdi to it from a wrecked one. Common enough engine. My dads old partner straight 1.9 did over 70 no bother. Was given the death everyday. lol. You could fit the 1.9 8v, but just thinking about the ecu for all the other controls would maybe be a problem. Go for it if you can. A true sleeper, and keep it on the steel wheels and standard. lol some people would get a shock or to.

O.K. after plenty of searching I think that I have discoverd that the 1.9D engine is definetly a 306 engine, although there are 2 varients, however, I still don't know if it'll fit almost straight in a 205. Do the GTI6/S16 engines drop straight in? (Reverse thinking!) Does anyone have the engine codes for the 306 diesel engines? :)

Have you thought about fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, engine loom, ecu etc?

It's a lot of work when a hdi isn't exactly slow.

not sure if its the same but a gti6 drops staight into a d-turbo so a 1.9 shouldent be much different,a mate did this not that long ago and didnt change much and i no a few people that have done it wit the 205 diesels so shouldnt be to hard.

Although they are both Pug Partners I think the engines are still way apart from each other. The tank, pump and lines should be easy enough to get around. If I go to the effort to change the engine I may aswell go for something mental. Perhaps the GTI6 is worth a thought after all. The exsisting loom can stay in place and I'll just fit what's needed for the engine sensors on the new engine loom and tie them in. (Could be daydreaming on that part) :D This was just a bizarre thought to start with but I'm beginning to get a plan together. Never a good idea! :)

Gti6 engine would be no harder than the 1.9 8v.

Its the conversion from diseasal to petrol that will be the most work.

That would be a beast. :)

What parts are actually involved in the swap between diesel and petrol? Could you not retain the tank and flush it and use new braided hoses with an inline pump? (I could be talking b8ll8cks at this point). :D

1.9 8v petrol would be a poor idea.

The 1.9 TD from the 306 would be much more appropriate and straight forward.
