jim205GTI 3 Posted February 22, 2006 Alright got the coolant pipework sorted, i know what i am doing with that when the mi goes in..... but am struggling a bit with the mi and it's oil pipework and the breathers for it. Just like to know how other people have done their pipework so i can get some sort of idea on how to do mine properly cheers jim

newdean0 0 Posted February 27, 2006 Has anyone tried blocking off one of the entries on the block and halfway up the filler pipe and taking a pipe from the side of the oil filler body up to the head? Just thought this might reduce the amount of pipework around the front of the block as I can't really see what purpose the bottom loop between filler body and block fulfils. alex205mi16 1 Posted March 2, 2006 i`d be intersted in minimising the front breather network as its pain in the ar se and the pipework is always in crap condition.
kate205gti 4 Posted March 2, 2006 sorry to hijack () but what have ppl done with the breather pipe off the filler cap when running tbs or carbs on an mi engine?
newdean0 0 Posted March 4, 2006 You probably want to vent it to atmosphere (or a catch tank). I think the only reason it goes back to the throttle on road cars is to burn off any oil in the breather fumes for emissions regs.
5150maxie 0 Posted March 4, 2006 This might help: anyone tried to modify these pipes in metal or alloy tubes as they tend to split?
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted March 4, 2006 anyone tried to modify these pipes in metal or alloy tubes as they tend to split? No but I've recently been thinking about it for the 8v engine. Only thing is I'm not sure how they would cope with the mayo in winter, at least the rubber hoses keep in in them & out of the sump mostly. I'd rather have to clean them out occasionally than have the mayo get into the sump & mix with the oil. Could be expensive in the long run. Graham.
