Good luck with it - I hope it does what you want it to.

 

Maybe something will be different for you and i strongly recommend you fit the electric valving system as advised to me by Alan Knight of Special tuning. In my case, it was the biggest waste of 300 quid ever.

 

I took mine out after one track day and fitted a dry sump system. I had a 6 pint accusump with manual control fitted behind the seat.

 

Rob Thomson and I did some trials and Rob has written up our findings.

what does the electronic valving system do that the manual control doesnt??

Yeah I gave that thread a good reading, and was unfortuante you had those results, but miles seem to think they are an improvement over std, I'll not be running the car on slicks to also avoid surge issues, and the electric valve is always and option later down the line.

 

 

As for the SPA gauge it drives and external circuit off the warning light set up so I can hook up and big f**k off LED to warn me of low pressure. Will be set to around 20psi I think.

 

 

Electric valves means the accusump can discharge at a give pressure, then it will shut to stop the accusump steeling the oil flow off the pump to recharge straight away, so gives the engine intenral a chance to remain luubed up before re-charging the accusump.

I wasnt being funny at all when i said I hope it works - theory says it should and I did a lot of research before I bought mine - incidently from Miles who has a lot of experience.

 

I think the key is the electric switching - i found this out after i took mine out and i think it may have improved things a great deal. I sold my accusump to James Lumley who was mentioned earlier and I think he was going down the electric route - maybe he has some info for us ?

 

With the electric control I can see that it will be an improvment over standard - in my install with the "direct on line" I think it actually made it worse. - all we are really interested in is protecting the bearings.

 

The reason I gave up was that to fit the accusump and then add electric valving was probably half the cost of the dry sump - BUT the dry sump was really a lot of work. It does solve the problems but it does have drawbacks especially for a road car - eg, it sounds like you have a tea urn in the boot, its a swine to change the oil and if you have an engine falure with particles in the oil, you have to fully flush the pipes or replace them.

Was down tinkering/mincing on the car to day, and had a thought, if you plumb the accusump in via a sandwich plate, you have the 2 short lines (one with the non-return in it) and the other free.

 

So if you put a 45psi sprung one way valve in the feed to the accusump and a 20psi valve on the output, then you could manually replicate the electric valve, and at the same time not worry about extra electrics.

 

I haven't a clue if valves like that exist, but guess they must, and hydrolic specialist on the site?
