Ant 2 Posted February 20, 2006 Hi all, Just posting this as i thought it could be useful to others doing the conversion.. The mount is off a 605 2.0 Turbo The alternator is different to the 205 one, and a 205 one wont fit. I couldnt use the 605 tensioner because the PAS and Air con pumps go around it.. Ive used 2 205 GTi manual tensioners and welded them on. Not sure what the belt is off. the 205 GTi one fits, but only has 3 bands. The 605 one has 5. Went to a local motor factors and asked for a belt an inch linger than 1 205 GTi one, with 5 bands. Apparently, an inch makes all the difference Still a bit untidy, but i need to cut the PAS bracket off. Once ive done that ill smooth off the welds and paint the whole bracket Tested it with one tensioner, but it still want stable enough, so added a second one Hope this will be useful to someone in the future ( oh and actually work LOL ) Regards Ant
Banjo 1 Posted February 20, 2006 Not sure how strong that weld will be, isn't the mount cast? Ben
Ant 2 Posted February 20, 2006 yeah.. But ive ground away all the coating and spot welded it to begin with.. Just to check line ups.. But it seems okay. When i lined it up wrong slightly the first time i had to grind it off, as the hammer didnt work LOL.. So it must be pretty strong. But if anyones got any advise, it would be appriciated
Guest andy309goodwood Posted February 20, 2006 im doing a similer conversion dont the gti brakets fit (not got that far yet ) ?
jochem 0 Posted February 21, 2006 Thats pretty much the same top mount as the gti6. I've just made a different mounting setup on my gti6 over the weekend. I modified a standard 8v alternator bracket to fit the mount and the alternator bolts. Here is as best a picture as i could make: http://www.telle.nl/137-3774_IMG.JPG I predict your setup might foul the rad, as mine barely leaves room for any air to pass....
