Immobilizer

Recommended Posts

Moys1.9

My mates just rebulilt the head on my 1.9 and for some reason it won't spark . Hopefully its just the ignition coil but my mate has suggested that it might be the immobilizer.

Now this is the complecated part, My car has TWO immobilizers. At some point one of the previous owners has lost the documents for the oldest of the two systems. For insurance purposes the previous owner got a cobra A0802T immobilisor fitted ( proof for insurance ).

Now for the big questions, Does anyone have any ideas as to what else could cause these symptoms? does anyone have any ideas about identifying these bloody things without any documentation.

Or am I skrewed.

I'm scared to death of leavin it at an auto electricians incase they take it out for a spin ( takin it easy, new head gasket an all ). Well fingers crossed its summat much simpler.

If its not the immobilizer I need to look into it anyways as I only have one key (card thingy) for it.

only way to check on immobilzers is to rip out lower dash and see how they are wired in, and bypass the circuits with wire to test if they are causing the problem

Cheers. I'll have look at that tomorrow. Hopefully is t ignition coil though. The car started fine before it went in, but its been stood outside for 4 weeks. Dunno if that can throw up electrical probs tho. It has been a rainy month  .

Ive had a few coils fail on me when the car has been stood for ages, so potentially.

If swapping the coil doesnt fix it, its probably not hard to bypass the imobilisers, theyre usually fitted in the wrong place and can be bypassed in a couple of minutes.

Would certainly check the ignition system fully before playing with the immobiliser wiring.

Cheers chaps. Ordered an ignition coil to try so I'll leave the immobilizer alone for now. Reassuring to hear someone elses coil went when left stood. Fingers crossed eh?
