hi all first off iv done a serch and kinda found what i was looking for but for a differeent crank

my Q is

im building a hybrid motor and im nearly at the stage of fitting it all together how ever

im using a 2.0 L block (xu10) and a crank from an 1.9 gti (xu9) im am asuming all need to use the con rods from the 1.9 to ensure the pistons dont try and punch thro the head and also the crank shaft bearings / end shells will 1.9 gti ones fit in the block ok or will i need to use different ones

i know hilgy used 1.9 derv ones for the mi crank will i need these for the gti crank ?

all info greatly recived

cheers andy

Hi Andy,

You use the conrods from the 2.0 as well, because the 2.0 pistons are normally 1mm down the bore. Since you have replaced the crank with one with 2mm more stroke this means the pistons will be flush with the deck, just like on a 130bhp 1.9-8V engine.

I used the bearings and shells from an XUD9 (which is a castiron block with a 1.9 crank).

petert

you can't mix and match pistons and conrods, as the 1.9L Mi pistons have a 22mm pin, whilst the 2.0L pistons have 23mm.

cool

right

i had a true horror moment last night real hart stopper as i mounted the gti crank all looked well

till i tryed to turn it ..

it would only turn aprox 40 deg before fowling on the block wall and on one of the piston spray bars the other way

once i got my hart restarted i decided it was time to dig out the dremmell (bought the thing about 4 years ago and never used it lol ) 2 hrs later and she was spinning free as a bird all happy and stuff now lol

i refitted one of the pistons on the original con rod to the block to see how much clearence it gives with out swapping the con rods for the shorter ones and the piston at tdc rises above the deck of the block by aprox .2 - ..3 of a mm how ever once a compressed head gasket is on there there is about .7 - .8 mm clearance from the head

well thats all for now folks if any one is interested i can post pics of where iv had to modify the block to fit the deeper stroke crank

ill have to wait till the head turnes up now before i can work out what the C/R will be and wheter or not to drop the C/R in some way

cheers guys
