Potential Minimum Weight Of A Fully Stripped 1.9?

Recommended Posts

Guest Adj205

Just wondering, has anyone accurately measured the weight of a stripped 1.9 GTi? I'm interested as weight-saving has such good implications on so many facets of a car's performance, and would like to play with some power-to-weight figures!

The standard car is circa 910kg, or so i've read! Is that correct?

Also, would the fully stripped 1.9 be significantly heavier than an equally stripped 106 Rallye (S1) with a 16v GTi engine? Nothing like a little sibling rivalry!

A fully stripped 1.9 205 with just one seat and no roll cage weighs approx. 750 KG's. I'm planning on taking mine to a weigh bridge shortly so will post the weight as this question has been asked before.

I've heard of people getting close to 700kg with things like poly windows, removing door skins, etc...

with a cage its hard to get under 750kgs. Plenty of companies do, but it's not as simple as fitting lighter boot/bonnet and stripping etc. I'm hoping to get mine to 750kgs when the lump goes in

I was at 750kg before, but have a TU engine, I'm not sure what the difference would be. PeteF managed 760kg I think with a cage, poly windows, and not sure what else. I think mine may weigh a little more now.

I see...thanks for all the input guys. I was supposed to be looking at a couple of cars this afternoon, but unfortunately the seller didn't make it. Still, the figures suggested are very encouraging so i'll just have to keep looking!

Im at 810kg with fully stripped in interior. 2 seats, no spare wheel, all metal to do with spare wheel holder removed and all sunroof stuff removed. If that helps :)

705 kg in rally spec ( without the spare wheel ). Unfortunately this is with an acid dipped shell that I have now written off and various kevlar bits. Will be interesting to see what I can get new shell down to.
