M@tt 77 Posted February 18, 2006 been on holiday this week so have been able to spend a good couple of days on the car, and i'm pleased to say i think i've pretty much got 95% of the wiring licked i quite suprised myself, and if nothing else i can now work my way round a wiring diagram and fuseboard in seconds i need to join the wires properly and cut the loom wires to length but the only other things i'm yet to finish sorting are 1) the fuel gauge doesn't seem to want to play, i've got 2 wires which should got through the fuel level sensor which basically appears to be a variable resistor but connecting the two together doesn't appear to do anything (i'd expect it to max out). oh and the fuel light also stays on 2) the speedo and rev counter just need wires running in fromt the engine bay. They both appear to work by taking a earth pulse (not sure if thats the correct terminoligy) basically if you keep earthing the wire repeatedly the quicker you do it the higher the or prehaps the TDC? 3) there also appears to be an oil level indicator within the oil temperateure guage, it's an illuminated light scale which comes on when the instrument cluster first turns on and it kind of does a self check but then goes off and i can't seem to get this working again although i'm not overlly bothered about that. 4) The only other thing is is that there isn't an oil pressure guage and so i'm coinsidereing getting an additional gauge for that. oh and all the heater controls are all wired in and working etc and all indicators the one thing i did need to alter though was to basically merge together the harard light switch of the 205 onto the 206 button cos the wiring was totally different. so i've just uysed the 205 switch, chopped off the top and superglued te 206 button face onto it. proper job!! that's it really with the exception of the intermittant wipers which i'm still to sort grrr hopefully i might be able to get the car started tomorrow with any luck if i can sort the exhaust downpipe. i've chopped the flange off and so just need to alter the length of the downpipe and re weld it. The end is in sight now which wire was it again the hybrid hazard light button

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted February 19, 2006 I was going to say the same thing, Are these from a Derv model? But good skills and looks like some of the wiring I;ve done in the past
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 19, 2006 Nice one m@tt, getting close now. Have you had the car running now then? I agreed with Miles, they are from a derv model. Most likely a hdi model imo, same counter red line as the hdi berlingos at work. Graham.
jochem 0 Posted February 19, 2006 Nice one! Feels good to 'beat the system', doesnt it? Maybe i can help you with some of your q's, with my experience. I have a 306gti dial set in my 205gti. 1. I have a feed and a ground coming from the fuel level pickup connected to the dash. Sound like you may have got them onnected the wrong way round? 2. I got my signals from the 306gti ECU. For speed you could try and get an electric speed sensor in the diff to generate the signal. For rpm you could try to convert the normal signal coming from the mi16 (i believe the difference was 12v oposed to 6v on the modern system). 3. On first contact the dial will give an oil level indication with the illuminated display. You would need a special sensor for that, normally situated on the back of the block. Good luck on finishing up!
