Rebuilding The Bottom End

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

Going to stick with the original 1.9 8V engine in my 205. However, I am in need of a bottom end rebuild.

As I am using the car for hillclimbs should I specify anything to be used over standard.

I am having replaced:

Oil pump

Big end and small end bearings

piston rings (as it is blowing a bit now and guess these are the cause)

regrinding crank (how much weaker does a regrind make it?)

crank oil seals

(.....any thing else needed...?????????????????)

Cheers!

I guess you could have the fly wheel lightened. Although if you do this it will kangaroo a bit at very low speeds.

The little ends don't have any bearings but I guess you mean mains instead.

A crank regrind should take the minimum amount off, if its needed at all & therefore shouldn't weaken it very much at all imo.

Re-hone the liners & fit the new rings.

What has been done or are you doing anything to the head at the same time? The valve stem oil seals are more commonly the cause of it blowing oil.

Graham.

Hi - Yes the Valve stem seals have been done along with the HG and head bolts etc...

- when I say blowing, I mean its coming up the oil filler cap breather into the catch tank (about 1/2 pint on one hillclimb)

Also - I have budgeted £500 for my garage who charge £30 ph) - is this realistic???
