Separate The Sprocket-key From The Camshaft?

Recommended Posts

B1ack_Mi16

I need to move the sprocket-keys from my standard-cams over to the catcams.

I really can't seem to get them out of the standard-cams. Any special tricks?

Spray them with penetrating oil and give them a tap at one end with a small hammer, then level the other end with a screwdriver.

Alternativly they are probably only a couple of pence for new ones.

Ah, so they're supposed to be fairly easy to get out then...

I couln't find a partnumber for new ones, looked like they only came togeather with the cam-pully itself.

Will have a go tomorrow then. :)

A hammer and screwdriver generally damages them. Tap them backwards with something softer than steel such as brass, bronze or aluminium and once you've got a gap you can then get a small screwdriver in and just lever them out. Again use something soft to tap them into the new cams with. I also find it helps to just break the edges of the slots in the new cam with a fine file before fitting the keys so there is no burr to jam the pulleys. Just a couple of strokes to put a tiny chamfer on the slot is all you need. If the slots are sharp edged they can cut the keys as you fit them.
