Simon B 3 Posted February 16, 2006 Hi everyone, I've literally only just bought my 205 mi16, and im booked on a track day at Bedford next weekend. What oil do you guys recommend for these engines, especially given that its gonna get a hard time on track? All thoughts will be appreciated.... Thanks, Nige

Simon B 3 Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) As strange as this might sound, I did try numerous searchs and didnt find anything that answered my Q... (and i was expecting there to be a lot). Will try again with some different search terms now! Thanks! Edited February 16, 2006 by Nigel B

rjw205 8 3 Cars Posted February 16, 2006 Motul 300v or Silkolene Pro S. Motul is 15 - 50, same sort of spec as mobil one (the more gloopy one), and the silkolene is 10 - 40 (ever so slightly better...... Bit like a chcolate eclair and an eccles cake.. both fill the hole, but they both do a good job of it. It was the smell of the Motul that won me over haha. And its recommended by oilman Rich
Jim 1 Posted February 17, 2006 Sikolene pro s if you want a good, cheap ester sythethic. (mobil 1 is not an ester. i.e. not as good & more expensive) If you cann't justify the expense of this oil or your pug consumes a lot of oil then use a good quality 10/40, 15/50 or 20/50 mineral oil (ie valolene 20/50 race (for serious track use) although the pro s is far better at protecting your engine. dj_masch_hr 0 Posted February 17, 2006 i use total 7000 10/
oilman 7 Posted March 1, 2006 It depends on the use and tune of the car. Stock road cars the minimum quality would be 10w-40 semi-synthetic although it has its limitations from a life point of view. If your car is modded or used on track then don't use semi synthetic, use fully synthetic. In these cases a 5w-40 or 10w-50 will be the correct oil dependent on state of tune. Dream Weaver 2 Posted March 2, 2006 which oil search "Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show." PMSL I'm telling you, the search function doesnt work properly, I always search for stuff, even text I know i've typed in threads but it never displays anything. petert 587 Posted March 2, 2006 I use Shell Helix Ultra 15W-50. Hard to get but one of the best around. Great for race cars.
mbayley77 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Ok so lots of oils are being recommended. Hows about this then - Does a higher viscosity oil (more liquid) give more chance of oil surge happening as it slops around the sump more?

Cheers Simon Ah, i hoped you might see this and add a contribution! Well in my case, the engine is pretty much standard (or so im told although it does go rather well ) and will be used on track! So a fully synthetic is what i shall require.... but the question is, what? Preferably without breaking the bank too......... Thanks a lot, Nigel. P.S. Thanks to everyone for their replies so far! Paintguy 0 Posted March 6, 2006 I'm telling you, the search function doesnt work properly, I always search for stuff, even text I know i've typed in threads but it never displays anything. Are you remembering to click "All Forums"? iirc, it used to default to this before a recent update, but now it defaults to the sub-forum you have just left (if that makes sense)
