Top Engine Mount.

Recommended Posts

Hollo everyone,

Firstly, I did a search but couldn't find this bit of info, regarding the drivers side top engine mount, is there a nut holding the bottom of the mount or is it threaded into the body of the car, it hard to see or feel what the story is with it. Thanks in advance,

Ken.

It's threaded into a captuve nut in the chassis... it can be a bit of a b!tch to get out if your mount starts to come apart as you undo it!!

Has anybody got any tips for getting the poxy thing off?

I have tried an allen key in the top of the nut but the mount just twists without any movement from the bottom thread, there doesn't seem to be a way of getting hold of it.

It appears to be rusted so I have flooded it with WD40

Is the only other way to knock the hell out of it with a chisel?

They're usually castellated - with steps round the side - just knock it round with a big flat head screwdriver/hammer

you can apply the same technique even if it's not castellated

Its really easy get a chisel and a hammer and knock it round using the bottom of the mount, the metal bit, comes off dead easy.

Forthe the benefit of anybody trying to do this I did the following:

Flooded the mount with WD40 the night before

Bought a 250x25mm chisel

Hit the mount with chisel and hammer on the side to get it to rotate anti-clockwise and it was off in a few seconds.

Thanks for your help chaps
