hman205 1 Posted February 14, 2006 I know some People on here Supply such items and i remember someone Developing an 8-4-2-1 Manifold Basicly im looking at for A price and Performance Comparison of these manifolds So Quote if Your selling them please i currently have a Re-angled manifold on my 205 mi16 but this has Cracked Again on the Collector and i just don't think its worth fixing again (only lasted 3 days last time) I also want to get rid of the Horrible mess of a down pipe i have as it has more joins than a patchwork Quilt
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 14, 2006 Taffycrook was looking at making an 8-4-2-1, pictures of it here & here. I think it all halted when he couldn't use his usual rolling road for testing against the standard Mi manifold on the same car & day but it's gone quiet since then. Graham. steendp 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Extremely quiet indeed . It would be interesting to see whether or not it pays t make an 8 fold manifold. It seems pretty heavy and possibly prone to cracking?
James_R 3 Posted February 14, 2006 What benifit (in theory) does a 8-4-2-1 have over a 4-2-1? The speration of the same cylinder cna't have too much benifit, and the material between th eports woudl act to prevent reverstion surely?? And the minor weight savign of a 4-2-1?? pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 14, 2006 The Mi16 has 8 exhaust ports on the head so it needs to start as an 8 branch manifold or four very wide ones which imo would harm flow. Graham.
Bonzai 2 Posted February 16, 2006 ive been in contact with taffy about this. its still untested and unproven. to save retyping what he said into my own words i'll just paste the email. The mi16 engine manifold is a poor design but will cope with 180-190 bhp no bother. You get this with a std system too, but it will help to use a 2" or 2"1/4 system. The manifold itself will hold things back, but only when the gas speed is high. The 8-4-2-1 system I designed was to keep the gas speed up by using primary pipes the same size as the ports. anybody else have any opinion? what do other Mi16 tuners do??? Miles 331 1 Cars Posted February 16, 2006 We all use the 4-2-1 manifolds, The pipes more than match the port size, so in theory 4-2-1 or 8-4-1 does the same thing as it's all the same port. Hopefully I might be looking at getting some 4-1 manifolds made which should fit a little better.
