Hello,

Hoping sumone on here will be able to help me please.

I got an alloy block mi16 in my 205, It has kent cams.

I fully rebuilt the engine,New bearings, seals, rings, honed the bores, All the rebuild stuff you should do really, With reguards to the head i had it skimed and chaged the valve stem seals and allso re ground the valves into the head.

So anyways i have done about 3000 miles since i rebuilt it and everything is going great until about 2 months ago i was cuming home and a really nasty tapping sound could be hered from inside the car,

Its not bottom end and apears to be cuming from the head.

It allmost sounds like 2 bits of metal scrapeing togeather at high speeds.

Allso the car sounds like a sccoby a little bit,It sounds really flutery when reving.

When the engine is cold i can start it and theres no noise, 15 mins around the streets while it gets warm again and then this noise starts.

I have done a compression tests just now and did it when cold and warm and there pretty simerlar results alough them seem not very good between each cylinder.

I had from the cambelt end across--- 15.5 bar,13.0 bar,14 bar,8.2 bar

So the compression is all over the place.

The car uses no water or oil!

Any ideas to what this could be before i whip the head off!

Was thinking a slightly sticking valve but unsure.

Thanks,

Gavin.

This sounds a little similar to when i rebuilt my Mi and it had an odd tapping sound. It turned out to be one slightly bent valve, i still to this day don't know how i did it.

Right,

Just went out to do another compression test but wet, So i put a tiny amount of oil in each spark plug hole and did the test,

My reults were all better,

I had 17 bar in 3 of the cylinders but the dissy end went down to 6 bar!!

Decided after this now to get the head off and see what the feck has happened!

I had 40 mins to do it 2nite b4 it got dark and all i have left to do is undo the head bolts and it will cum stright off!

So tomorrow i will be able to see whats happened!

just an update,

Got the head off yesterday,

headgasket is mint but i allready expected that as its only 3000 miles old and so does the surface of the head look mint too, still nice and clean,

Well anyways i took the 4 vlaves out of the head on the dizzy end and 2 of the inlet valves are my suspect ones!

Basicly when i took the follower and then collet and spring out the valve felt nice and free up and down and when i went to take the vlave completely out it gos very tight and had to slightly knock them out with a screwdriver and i noticed as it came out where the collet normally sits on the end of the valve stem wer the cut in grooves are this had lots of what it looks like is the guide!

So im guessing it could be 2 cracked guides and 2 sightly bent valves?
