Ecu Temperture Sensor Specs

Anyone know roughly what sort of resistance it is at normal operating temperatures? I know open circuit is roughly -40C but for the bodge/mod I have in mind I need some idea of the normal operating resistance as well. Ideally I'd like a curve of resistance versus temperature but figure that would be asking for too much...

 

Any input welcomed

I can see an Ebay resistor type mod here :o On a more serious note, doesn't the haynes manual give the value for a couple of different temperatures? I think it's a linear response, so you could extrapolate the values, i'm assuming that they are the same Bosch part used on all Pug/Citreons, so you could get the value from any Haynes manual.

I doubt it is linear, not impossible (we use some at work that are) but unlikely as most thermister responses are distinctly non-linear.

 

Yep, a resistor type mod is on my mind but not for the e-bay reasons. My motor is running seriously rich when cold (with a new ECU temp sensor) but is fine once warm. A resistor in parallel with the ECU temp sensor may be able to fix this but need an idea of the values otherwise I risk leaning off the normal running mixture and that would be bad.

I'll have a look in a few of my Haynes manuals this evening. Could you not use a DVM and the saucepan on the hob trick? Heat the water and plot the resistance eery 10 degrees? Should give you a value that's near enough before you start tweaking. What ECU are you running Rob?

Yeah, I can do that but was trying to take the easy route first! (Who me lazy?)

 

I'm running stock Jetronic, want to see if I can get it to run well like this before spending cash on an ECU. It is running pretty well after the cleaned injectors, only cold start and total lack of go under about 1k8 revs to sort out (as in chugging down the road before going like hell!).

From memory they're about 2-3 kohms cold and 200-300 ohms hot. The actual curve doesn't matter too much as you calibrate whatever ecu you're using to the sensor. Pan of hot water, thermometer and a DMM does the job in a few minutes.

Thanks Dave, it was only that sort of ball park figure I really need.

 

Tom: I'm not lacking in spares, the fun and games I'm having is more to do with the spec of the engine. I really ought to fit a programmable ECU (or at least ignition) but am trying to get away with stock if I can! Making trouble for myself but having fun playing.

IIRC the Bosch blue fitted to most 90's Peugeots is 2.4kohm @ 20C

The BX16v diagnostic manual lists the following:

 

-10C 8200 to 11000ohm

+20C 2280 to 2720ohm

+80C 290 to 370ohm
