Carb Conversion

Recommended Posts

notamondayfan

hey guys,

im currently working on the dimma 1.9 8v, and im going to be converting to carbs.

but finding any decent carbs are hard. ive found a good pair of dellorto 40s, but i would like to know how they compare to 45s. im not going for any unrealistic bhp figures.

thanks, dean punchard

40's are fine with chokes up to 34mm and 34mm should be adequate to flow for a standard or relatively low state of tune 1.9 - in fact in the lower part of the rev range it may well give more power than say a 45 with 36mm chokes.

If you were going for a race engine that requires maximum top end power then I'd say go for 45's with bigger chokes perhaps, but being realistic 40's will do.

The other idea could be to convert the 40's in throttle bodies, do away with chokes and run full management with standard injector positioning - then there aren't the flow restrictions of the chokes (although in your case doubt that flow would be a problem at all).

thanks. the only engine mods i have in mind are head work, and maybe some bottom end work, but it all depends on the budget, but at the end of the day, i aint gonna b hitting the high BHP figures.

has any 1 written any articles on converting carbs to TBs? or know any good websites?

cheers, dean

I am considering a change from carbs (45DCOE's with 36mm chokes) to actual throttle bodies soonish, need to see if i can get the finances in order in time. I'll let you know if my carbs come up for grabs. You would have to realter the jetting on them for your setup, as they are set up for a high(ish) power mi.
