pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted February 6, 2006 starting to stress me out now , just can't decide what to do with it, anyway i'll get to the point shall i , are the 1.9 gti and the mi16 block the same ( or nearly) if not does anyone know the difference , could you in theory bolt an mi head to a gti block and produce the same sort of power ? or are the internals different? aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 7, 2006 This has been asked before so many times but here goes once more; The Mi head will fit onto the 8v block but the internals are different (pistons & liners). The 8v block is missing a thread for mounting the second cambelt tensioner at the front of the block & the oil spary bars for under the pistons. It can be done but costs plenty & its not worth the hassle, just buy an Mi botom end if yu want to use the Mi head. Graham.
petert 588 Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) The 8v block is missing a thread for mounting the second cambelt tensioner at the front of the block I'm sure it's there on all the blocks I have. The problem I see is that you only get 3 out of 5 bolts to line up on the top engine mount, and the dipstick is in the wrong place. You can live without the oil squirters. The engine mount is the major challenge. Edited February 7, 2006 by petert

AgreedOK, thanks for clearing that up, it has been mentioned before that it was there on later blocks but never confirmed until now. I hadn't thought of the Dipstick but I'm sure that could be got around easily enough it you decided to go this route. Engine mount is a different matter. Graham.
