Strange Steering Problem

Recommended Posts

elrikos

:) Hey guys

got an odd one for you here and i'm hoping you can help!

the steering on my 205 has got progressively worse since i got it on the road. it feels very light as if your driving on ice and will sometimes try to pull the steering wheel out of your hands and turn the wheel about 1/8 turn to the left. The sterring will sometimes load up and feel right for a few seconds and then when you turn a corner will go again.

the front suspension/steering has been totally overhauled including the following

polybushed wishbones

new drop links

checked ARB bushes (fine)

new dampers/springs/top mount rubbers (grp n) and top mount bearings

new track rod ends

steering rack disassembled, checked, regreased and reassembled

new wheel bearings (both front)

reconditioned rear beam (though it does seems very stiff)

new rear dampers

group N rear beam mounting kit

new eagle f1 gsd3's all round.

tracking checked and reset (with lasers!)

has anyone got any ideas whats going on here as i'm getting to the end of my tether with it! doesn't seem to be any play whatsoever in the wheels when jacked up and everything seems smooth.

the only bit that hasnt been replaced is the driveshafts. nwither seems particularly bad although i do have a new O/S one as it seems to make a banging noise when going on/off gas. again not a lot of play there.

if anyone has nay ideas i'd be soooo grateful!

cheers

Rich

What wheels are you using? Are they the right offset?

Im using standard 1.9's. ive actually found the problem now, it was my os trackrod end, the nut had rounded the thread and was loose in the hub. also the tracking is out! cheers anyhow.
