Your Advice On Lowering Amount For Front...

Recommended Posts

Guest Pug2112

I recently purchased a 309 beam off the forum which was lowered one spline (30mm if I'm correct). Now the front looks like its missing an engine.

Eurocarparts have 2 sizes for the front. One being a 40mm and the other a 25mm. Which one should I go for. Bearing in mind that I hear if the fronts too low then I'll be driving without shocks...

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm... well to err on the safe side I'd say go for the 25mm springs, even that small amount will be noticable. There are other brands out there that will lower 30mm though, which might be more suited if you've gone 30mm on the rear

If you try the 25mm ones to see. It might look alright. If not you could cut a coil off them and see? Only thing is you would need to change them every time for mot. You should be able to get 30mm spring though? If you go lower than 40mm without coilovers you'll be eating shocks as you probably know. You could try going for some koni adjustables maybe?

Yeah, don't chop a coil off. Springs aren't as simple as that - the whole thing twists as it compresses.

Progress report - Have had the work done. Overall I fitted a new rear beam, a 309 beam which was lowered by one spline, and which also was also fitted with grp A bushes. The beam came with Avo adjustable shocks - but these need recon'ing. Now also have rear disc brakes :P

Other work done at the same time front springs, new handbrake cable etc, front wheel bearings and both front drive shafts.

I got the 25mm springs which makes the car quite low. I put my standard shocks in the back (which are only a few months old). My only quam is that with the lowered rear beam and grp A bush kit the car is still quite noisy. At times It sounds the same as when the rear beam was going  thats when I'm driving over a pothole etc.
