309 1.9 Diesel Gearbox Compatible?

Hiya, I have a 1991 205 gti 1.9 and the gearbox has died. I was contacted through an add online by a guy who claims to have a suitable second hand one. But Im not sure on this. It is from a 309 diesel 1.9 and he tells me it will fit but is like(if not the same as?) the model which comes on the petrol 1.6 gti's so it has different gear ratios to the 1.9. I know that a lot of people fit 1.6 boxes to 1.9's for performance reasons but will this one work in my car and if so will the car run that differently?.I use the car daily as my only vehicle and I have read that although shorter shifts and faster acceleration is achieved by using a 1.6 box in a 1.9 , I also read that 5th peaks a lot earlier and isnt so usefull when driving on the motorway etc. Im just worried that in the long term I will regret it and wish I held out for a 1.9 box. The fact that its local and cheap is why I was hoping this box would fit.

a 1.6 box is shorter ratios than a 1.9 box and a diesel box is LONGER ratios than a 1.9 so your accelleration will be WORSE.

 

 

I suggest you never buy anything from that person.
