ajones12 0 Posted February 2, 2006 After rebuilding the engine bay following a clutch change I have come a little unstuck as to which hoses connect to the throttle body. From memory (hopefully take a pic tonight) I have three spigots coming from the bottom of the body - which hoses do I need to connect these up to? Thanks in advance Alun. jonD6B 0 Posted February 2, 2006 First of all what engine is it? If it's a GTI and you're refering to the aliminium throttle body with the three pipes pointing downwards, I believe only one is used and it's for the vacuum advance pipe. The plastic intake pipe to the throttle body has an oil breather pipe and a pipe that runs to the SAD.
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted February 2, 2006 yep its vac advancedon one and depending on how your piped up the larger 2 are coolant hoses that come from head and go back to header tank. Ive got mine running straight to header tank though so if thats how yours is piped then dont worry about them
newdean0 0 Posted February 2, 2006 The 2 thicker ones connect to the two thin coolant hoses - one goes straight back to the header tank, I think the other comes from the top of the cylinder head. The thin pipe is for vacuum advance.
ajones12 0 Posted February 3, 2006 I was thinking as I left work last night that I should have posted the details of my car to help you out! It's a 1991 H plate 1.9 Gti and as far as I know is standard. From memory I there is one spigot at the top of the throttle body (which connects to the oil filler cap) and there are three dangling from the bottom. There are two coolant hoses which have the connections at the other end insitu. I also have a small diameter hose dangling *I think* from the inlet manifold. Are these the three hoses that connect to the underside of the throttle body? If so is it fairly easy to distinguish where they go? Cheers!! Alun.

The plastic intake pipe to the throttle body has an oil breather pipe and a pipe that runs to the SAD. I'm pretty sure that only the one spigot underneath is used and it's for the dissy advance vacuum pipe. I don't think the other two even have holes through into the throttle body bore do they? The one on top of the throttle body as you said goes to the breather. The small hose connected to the inlet manifold is probably for the fuel pressure regulator unless it comes out of the bottom of the manifold then it's for the SAD. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted February 4, 2006 Underneath there are four spigots, a small one, seperate to the others for the vacuum advance & three close together, of which only two are used for the coolant as described above. As already said the two underneath for the coolant system aren't really needed in the UK & can one pipe can go stright from the thermostat housing back to the expansion tank. The small dangling hose will be your vacuum advance & should run back to the distributer. Graham.
