Exhaust Manifold Downpipe Gasket

How does the exhaust downpipe gasket fit. I tried yesterday and the bolts arent long enough and the manifold doesnt fit correctly if the gasket is in place.

This is a bugger of a job if you don't have the right bolts.

 

Are you fitting a 205 exhaust to a modded mi16 downpipe?

 

When I did my Mi16 install I got some bolts from the Qwikfit across the road - they were barely long enough and I couldn't get the joint secure.

 

Took me six months to get round to fitting a new kit 'cos the thought of redoing it really put me off - I bought a gasket set from Partco for £9 - and the bolts from this kit were plenty long enough, went on without too much of a struggle (although it would have been easier with an additional elbow or two!) and the joint is now perfectly sealed.

 

Basicially my advice is - take the kit back and get some longer bolts!

Get a genuine Peugeot kit, these come with a selection of bolts & the gaskets don't leak like the pattern ones I've used before.

Buy some weilding vice grips and clamp the downpipe to manifold, then all you have to do is slide the bolts in and tighten them up.

put a jack under the downpipe and jack it up onto the manifold, then clamp with mole grips. I've done this job more times then i'd care to remember and its always a major pain.
