Misfire Problems

Recommended Posts

I dont know if you remember or not but in December just after refuelling from an extremely low level, My Mi16 developed a really bad misfire (wont take the throttle and dies) when warm.

Someone reckoned it would be water or oil in the spark plug holes,

I have still got these problems, I have removed the plugs they are quite black (they are nearly brand new) and were wet with fuel when removed, however they would be wet with me cranking her over. There was no water or oil down the plug bores in fact it was basically bone dry.

I still think this could be bad petrol or something but cannot understand why it runs OK whilst cold but comes to a spluttering death when warm, surely if it was fuel related the problem would be there constantly?

I have also tried swapping ecu's but to no avail.

ok

I have now drained the fuel and refilled with fresh juice.

No joy Im afraid......

Surely someone must have an idea??

Does it idle o.k. when warm? What RPM does it idle at cold?

It wont idle when cold, you have to keep a bit on throttle on her untill she warms up.

It used to idle just below 1000 when warm, but your lucky if it stays running long enough now.

I took the cap off last night, it didnt look too bad some slight marks on the contacts but nothing much, the cap and arm was new around 600 miles ago, but they were cheapo motor factor jobs, however if the fault lay with the cap then surely the problem would be there when cold also?

Did it used to idle when cold before the problem started or has it never idled when cold?

have you checked the ECU Temp sender as this sound very similar to my problem which i found to be related to that

Over fueling?

It was never great at a cold idle.

Which one is the ecu temperature sender?

I would also start with the coolant temperature sensor. It is located under the dissy in the water chamber that seats the SAD. I think.

Does anyone have any info on the expected readings for these sensors?

Given that this happened after running the tank pretty much empty I'd say your problem will be in the fuel filters. Crap can collect in the bottom of tanks over many years then get sucked into the filters if you run the tank dry (or nearly dry).

The main filter is under the bonnet and I suspect there will be a coarse filter on the pump but don't know for sure.

did either of the above two people rectify their problems? my 2.0 mi16 over fuels once warm, when cold its fine and extremely smooth, but once up to temp, it over fuels and splutters to a stall. i think because of it does it when warm that it is a temp sensor, could anyone help? thanks very VERY much
