205 Turbo Conversion Help!?

Recommended Posts

Ruskyruss

Please can anybody help, im in the middle of converting my 205 to turbo power using a citroen xm 2.0 8v lump, still have the donor car as im unsure as to what wiring I will need without spending hours and hours tracing them all back! The ecu and all engine sensors are all still conected, battery terminals are also on the loom on the engine , and then there is just the one big round black multi plug connection which is causing me the hassle, surely only three or four wires are required from this multi plug to get her running and the rest will be for instruments and such like, but im really unsure where to start to try and figure any of this out from! Me and my mate have spent the last few days with a 1.6 wiring loom spread out all over his kitchen floor but I really don't think it has helped and anyway all the managment system for the xm is under the bonnet not in the car so it would all be completly different! Looking through the forum's there a quite a lot of these conversions and quite a lot of knowledge, please would someone like to share some of it with me!?! Anybody made there own connection using the citroen multiplug and the rectangular pug connections!?

Any help very much appreciated thanks!

Russ

Hi,I posted up the XM wiring diagrams.have you got them? also worth contacting Inferno on here,he has the ECU pinouts.

Im half way through my turbo wiring, best to get everything out of the XM,espaecailly keypad, then work out what you need to make it run in a 205,by all accounts its not to much.

Sorryi cant help any further at this stage, but with al the info held on this forum about these conversions it will make it alot easier.

Also if you get the XM haynes it will tell a bit about the charging and starting system wich is fairly straight forward and a good starting point B)

Im not using much of the 205 engine loom, but some of the interior harness

i would be working on mine today,if i had'nt sliced my thumb in half yesterday :(

Hi Russ,

Just wondered if you were the guy who got the car on ebay on Sunday... The owner really ***** me off with that 1. I was interested in the car but he said he wanted to let the auction run ... Then it goes and ends early :D

You mind saying roughly what you paid.. I'd set a bid up on hammersnipe, but it was irrelevant cuz he ended it early ..

Good luck with the conversion :o

Nope I didnt have such luck had to drive 150 miles to get mine from essex then 150 miles back with no hydraulic fluid lol not fun (very bouncy tho) :o !

But im sorry to say it was my best friend Sy who bought the one off e-bay, he lives 2 miles from the seller the lucky so n so! Completly understand how you feel though iv had it done to me and it really ****** you off! Personly I think mine is better as I have no keypad and he unfortunately does! He paid 2 for it tho mate, they are out there to be had at the min, and despite all the talk ov the mi's bein quicker im still a firm believer in turbo power!

Good luck searching!

Russ

Thanks for the advice, have contacted inferno and awaiting a reply!

My xm has no keypad fortunately for me as I see most do have! :D

Got the haynes manaul(£4 on e-bay ;) ) But it dos'nt have all the wiring diagrams in as far as I can tell and certainly no pin-outs! French wiring for you, especially citroens!

Anyway thanks for your help mate and good luck to you too, let me know how you get on!

Hi Russ,

I had set an auto bid for £275 on hammer snipe, so the seller lost out - :P serves him right for ending it early...

Ive just brought a 605 SRTI today for a bargin price :) - 72k on the clock, so ill be having a dabble fitting it next weekend.. Cant wait.. Picking up a cossy intercooler and 306 XSI mount this weekend, so all systems go ;)

Cheers for the reply :P

the 605 turbo you have ant, will be the higher compression ratio turbo engine, at 8.5:1 with a power output of 140bhp @ 6000rpm... sorry if this has put a damper on your project but i thought id let you know

:)

Gutted

I presume they are still slightly tunable in the same was as an xm, xantia, 406 etc. What can i expect with a cossie intercooler and increasing the boost ? That was my plan

Any idea if the loom and ecu are the same as the xantia / xm / 406, as them engines go pretty cheap on ebay if theres no loom , ecu etc

Cheers

Lee,

I know your clued up on these, ( ive spent 2 hours just reading through all your turbo topics !! ) , but ive checked various websites and they all state BHP is 145 / 150

il get you by autodata print out.... i had a turbo engine from a 1995 605 srti, and mine was defintly 140bhp.... (if you check the turbo block, it should have 3 letters like rgx or something like that, just below the alternator) and you will know just by them what power output it has...

andy309 wich engine do you have RGX or RGY,do have the complete engine and main loom unchopped?,I may need to ask you a few questions, although im nearly there i think :P

Just switch live and Fuel pump wires to attach now and fingers crossed

Good luck with your conversions Ruskyruss and Ant,hope it all goes well and does'nt take you as long as i have spent,a good 4-5 months  for me so far,not that im complaining, its been fun, difficult at times...and im also not to bothered about it being slower than an mi :(

Jacobs53,wish i had the chance to buy that turbo engine you had for sale a while back,im probally not going to have the time and patience to paint the block and rebuild it,i just wanna drive it :D

slightly off-topic but did'nt really want to start my own,You now the vehicle speed sensor module you sold me will my engine start ok if this and the speed sensor are not connected at all?

Sonofsam,

Very nice engine bay..

Lee, cheers for your info about the RG numbers.. THINK i may be lucky.. Ive done a bit of research and found a couple of sites that mention the 605 RG numbers

Found this..

605 2.0i Turbo XU10J2TE (RGY) 1992 - 1996 Motronic MP3.2 139 @ 6000

605 2.0i Turbo XU10J2CTEL/Z (RGX) 1994 - 1999 Motronic MP3.2 150 @ 5300

In theory mine will be the RGX engine, as the car in a 1998 car , so touch wood ill have 150 to start with..

Oh well, all being well it will be delivered next week so ill know for sure nxt weekend :P
